Faces of Eureka

The Historic Eureka School is located in Downtown Hattiesburg and was one of only two brick high schools for African Americans in the state of Mississippi when it opened in 1921. The Historic Eureka School is now home to an African American Heritage and Cultural Museum.

For the centennial birthday of the school’s opening, I had the honor of photographing several attendees of the Historic Eureka School for the first installment of the ongoing “Faces of Eureka” project.
